Heritage

It is a long and fascinating journey, from the first wooden boats built in Giovanni Cranchi’s workshop in the late nineteenth century to today’s yachts, made with composite materials and advanced technology in the yard’s own facilities. Along the way, the baton has been handed down through six generations

Lake Como

Our story is bound up with Lake Como. It was on its shores, at San Giovanni di Bellagio, that Giovanni Cranchi opened his workshop.

The official founding date of Giovanni’s craft business is 1870, the year the firm was registered to build wooden boats.

Cars had yet to take to the roads, and the first Cranchi boats were already cutting through the water, beginning a journey that continues today across the seas of the world.

Growth

In 1932 another Giovanni Cranchi, grandson of the Giovanni who founded the line, moved the workshop to Brienno, still on the shores of Lake Como, giving it more and more the scale of a boatyard.

Aldo Cranchi

From a young age, Aldo Cranchi, who inherited his father’s passion for boats and for precise construction techniques, put his talent into drawing the lines of new boats and giving shape to the vision of a more modern yard.

In 1970, a hundred years after the first workshop was founded, Tullio Monzino went into partnership with Aldo Cranchi, and the yard moved to the nearby Valtellina to expand.

“A genuine one-off on the international scene, the yard has operated independently since 1870, with the Cranchi family still owning it today alongside the Monzino family.”

Today, with more than 150 years of history behind it, the yard has long been run along professional management lines, with the two families still at the helm and the direct involvement of Paola, Elena and Guido Cranchi and Franco Monzino.
